Pour une rare fois, John McCain a l'occasion de célébrer. Le Des Moines Register, quotidien de la capitale de l'Iowa, et le Boston Globe, journal fort lu au New Hampshire, publient aujourd'hui des éditoriaux (ici et ici) appuyant sa candidature dans la course à l'investiture républicaine pour l'élection présidentielle de 2008. Voici un extrait de l'édito du Register :
McCain would enter the White House with a deep knowledge of national-security and foreign-policy issues. He knows war, something we beleive would make him reluctant to start one. He is also a fierce defender of civil liberties.
Chez les démocrates, le Register et le Globe ont choisi d'appuyer deux candidats différents. Le quotidien de Des Moines mise sur Hillary Clinton, alors que celui de Boston a jeté son dévolu sur Barack Obama. Un passage clé de l'édito du Register sur la sénatrice de New York :
Readiness sets her apart from a constellation of possible stars in her party, particularly Barack Obama, who also demonstrates the potential to be a fine president. When Obama speaks before a crowd, he can be more inspirational than Clinton. Yet, with his relative inexperience, it's hard to be confident he could accomplish the daunting agenda that lies ahead.
